Lakshma Reddy's fifty ends a four-year wait for the Aman Grover Trophy

Brossard Warriors CC are Aman Grover Trophy champions again.

BWCC won the very first Aman Grover Trophy back in 2022, by a single run. Since then, the trophy has gone everywhere but home. Cric Hawks LaSalle took the 2023 final off them by six wickets, and they didn't get out of round one in 2024. 2025 didn't even get that far: South Shore Royals won the tournament's opening game by 1 run, then withdrew, leaving the rest of the weekend as a two-innings match between BWCC's own two sides. The A side finished 47 runs ahead when that match was drawn, and the trophy went to them for it, but a trophy won without beating anyone else from outside the club doesn't really count. Getting back to a real final took a nine-wicket demolition of BCA Brossard Yellow on 23 August just to squeeze past on net run rate, and then the final itself had to wait almost a week for the weather, finally played on the 29th at Parc Sorbonne. BCA Brossard Orange, who had already beaten BWCC once in the group stage, were waiting for them.

BCA won the toss and put BWCC in. It did not start well. Maninder Singh was caught by Bhuvi off Akhilesh Mathur for 15, and by over 9 BWCC had lost four wickets for 58: Ramesh Babu Ravella bowled by Sumit Singh without scoring, Rohit Sharma and Sukhjit Singh both bowled by Bhuvi. Through all of it, Lakshma Reddy was still there. He'd opened the partnership chain at the very first wicket and he was still batting when the seventh fell, outlasting six different partners. Amit Kumar went for 7, run out in a mix-up with Lakshma still well set. Mohit Bhardwaj was caught for 1 soon after. Then Subodh Mahajan joined Lakshma for a stand that took the score from 78 to 118, the innings' biggest partnership by a distance. Lakshma reached his fifty off 54 balls with four fours, and was finally run out himself for 51 off 56 with the total on 118, caught by the same fielding pair, Mohit Turki and Jagdeep Chuttani, that had run out Amit Kumar earlier. Aman Joshi fell for 7 and Subodh for 18. BWCC finished their overs nine down for 126, with seventeen wides and two no-balls padding out a total that was really 107 off the bat. Akhilesh Mathur took 3 for 36, Sumit Singh 2 for 39, and Bhuvi, not done for the day yet, 2 for 12.

126 was never going to intimidate anyone, and BCA knew it. But BWCC struck twice inside four overs. Sumit Singh was caught behind by Maninder Singh off Amit Kumar, and Aman Sharma was caught by Rohit Sharma off Ramesh Babu Ravella. At 9 for 2, the target had teeth again. Ranjit Singh and Viral Godhani steadied things to 39, both eventually dismissed, before Bhuvi found his partner for the innings: Dipesh V. The two of them put on 47 for the fifth wicket, the only stand of the match that threatened to change the result, before Dipesh fell caught for 22 with the score on 86 and BCA needing 41 from the last five overs with five wickets standing.

BWCC finally got the wicket they needed most in the very next over. Bhuvi, who had already taken 2 for 12 with the ball earlier in the day, was caught by Sukhjit Singh off Vinay Kumar for 40 off 33, with BCA on 92 and four overs left. The game looked to have turned BWCC's way for good. It very nearly hadn't: Rajesh Sharma and Maruthi Govindappa came together needing 24 from the last two and a bit overs, and almost got there, finishing unbeaten on 7 and 18. Only six wickets had fallen all day, and BCA still had four in hand when the twentieth over ended, but they had run out of overs, not batters. They finished on 116 for 6, ten runs short.

Player of the match went to Lakshma Reddy, and it was hard to argue with that: one end of the innings belonged to him from the first ball to the seventh wicket. BWCC's bowling had no single standout figure to match it. Ramesh Babu Ravella's 1 for 9 off four overs was the pick of a shared effort, with five different bowlers taking a wicket each and none of them letting BCA's required rate come back down to something comfortable. Four years after the first one, the Aman Grover Trophy is back in the hands of the club that founded it.
